One email. That is all it took to send the City of Medicine Hat into a tailspin… The subject line: "Request to remove link to Kelly Allard candidate website." The body referenced defamation and liability. Within 24 hours, the City removed Allard's link. Then they removed every candidate's link.

Medicine Hat's Governance Committee met on September 15 and decided not to change the graffiti bylaw. Staff said no other city distinguishes between permanent and temporary media. The Owl discovered otherwise.

When the City of Medicine Hat removed my campaign links (and then all of the candidate links) from their website, they said it was based on a complaint. For over a year, they refused to tell me what that complaint said. The OIPC has ordered that the City give it to me within 50 days…Read the order below.

News Analysis Premier Danielle Smith says she's concerned about Calgary city council using closed meetings too much…closed-door sessions should be "very rare." She said it's "not good practice" when councils debate things in private and then…vote in public without telling anyone what was actually discussed... Medicine Hat has the exact same problem... We've been documenting this for over a year.
